When 11-year-old Pit Bull “Sugar” was rushed to the hospital, her owner discovered she had a hemorrhaging tumor in her heart and that euthanasia was the most humane course. Although grief stricken by the unexpected loss, they were relieved to be able to afford the high price tag of Sugar’s excellent medical care.
This high cost of care is often not within reach for pet owners experiencing homelessness. With seed money from Sugar’s very own Grandmother, FBB created a grant program called The Sugar Fund designed to help pet owners pay for their companions’ veterinary care.
